This novel introduced Mick Cardby, the son of a Scotland yard inspector, who decides to go undercover to smash London gangsters who make a specialized business of crime with smash-and-grab raids, holdups, and even murder. Other Mick Cardby adventures followed, set in similar worlds with Cardby cracking down on the rackets.
