Deathly relics

Sherlock Holmes and his cousin, Henry Vernier, are in Rome on a diplomatic mission involving the Vatican when Holmes is summoned by the Pope to find the stolen forefinger of Saint Thomas. When the relic is mysteriously returned, all seems to be resolved. But when a guard is murdered and the relic stolen again, Holmes must follow the trail through the streets of Rome, the Vatican, and beyond.
