A forgotten book revived for the Crime Classics series for a new readership to enjoy. Described by Martin Edwards as similar in tone and style to early P. D. James fiction. The title references the spiritual of the same name (popularised by Paul Robeson in 1959), lamenting the dangers of betrayal and the transience of a good reputation.
